A “virtuoso farce” and truly affectionate look at what genuinely holds a theatre company together. The Playhouse, a rustic New England summer theatre, opens its season of Dracula, Charley’s Aunt, and Hamlet—and comic mayhem ensues, including misplaced cues, forgotten lines, wrong entrances, giant mosquitoes, small budgets and eccentric egos… all leading up to the elation of a great play, well told, and the nostalgic closing of the season. Satire becomes hilarity as you meet the (new-age) ingenue, the leading man (who might just choose law school instead), the experienced (forgetful) veterans, the jaded (inflated!) professional, the exhausted interns, the stage manager with a delicious cynical wit, the beleaguered overworked designer, and of course the director, whose heart and soul is the center of the dysfunctional family created anew each summer. A love letter to the theatre world!
Directed by Karen Schlumpf, produced by Bruce Lipin.
Auditions were held February 27 and 28.
