New Play Project Wrap-Up

By · August 16, 2011 · Filed in new play project, shows · No Comments »

Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the RCP rehearsal hall.

The New Play Project’s Second season is over! This year we presented eight new works, and brought back five from the first season for a staged reading.

Now it’s time for you to help us choose which of the thirteen works we will bring back next year. This coming Saturday night will be our 2nd Annual End of Season Wrap Up. We will review all thirteen works. The process gets more intense this year, because there will now be only two works brought back for a third staged reading. One of those two works will be selected for a fully staged production at the Center Stage in Reston, in 2013.

The more readings you attended this year, the more you can contribute. But even if you only attended one or two readings, come tell us why you liked or didn’t like what you saw. Last year the discussion even got a little heated over certain works, and made for a very lively and thought provoking discussion.

As always, please RSVP at RestonNewPlays@aol.com.

A Death in the Family
by
Toni Wilson

Directed by Tomas Huntley

Penny Bernard just wants to host the perfect Christmas. Her three children will all be home for the first time in years, but her husband’s political ambitions get in the way.  There’s Minda, a Goth girl, Seamus, an Evangelical Environmentalist, and Alexi, a glorious drag queen.  And there’s this cat, a favorite of Penny’s, who does not like Charles.

As the January election day comes closer, Charles becomes grumpier and angrier about his challenger’s personal attacks on him and his family.  The problem is, a lot of what is said about his wife and kids is true.
